ESEE 6

If you are looking for one knife that can do it all, the ESEE 6 is the way to go. From making sawdust shavings or a trap trigger to splitting wood and processing game, the ESEE 6 will perform like a champ. Today I'll show you all the ins and outs of the ESEE 6.

One of the most important things a knife needs to be able to do is enable you to start and maintain a fire, one of the first things you need to do is make small shavings. The ESEE 6 does this well, it doesn't do this as well as a small pocketknife would, because the edge grind is not as steep as a pocketknife, it would not be logical to put a steeper grind on the ESEE 6 because, a steeper grind would be weaker. You also have the option to choke up and use the finger choil and jimping on the spine, I usually don't use the finger choil because the handle usually gives me enough control by itself, the jimping is not so sharp it really hurts your thumb, but it still gives you good grip. The tip is nice and pointy and really tough, I have tried to dig holes in trees and haven't broken the tip. The blade is long enough to split wood or cut (baton) smaller logs. The knife doesn't have a lot of heft for chopping, but with persistence you can chop yourself a baton out of a tree or branch.

The blade is made out of 1095 high carbon steel hardened to 55-57 Rc, this is an extremely tough metal, I have bent mine, but when the pressure was released it straightened itself. One downside is if it is not cared for properly it will rust. The blade has a thick powder coating to help prevent rust, some of this coating is removed by the laser engravings, is hard to clean around the edges of the engravings to keep it from rusting.

The regular handle is made out of linen micarta, two thin orange pieces sandwiched between two thicker gray pieces. The linen micarta gives you good grip in wet or dry conditions. The handle has a well defined guard to keep your hand from slipping onto the blade, there is also a nice kind of belly to give you something to grab onto. There is not much to grab onto if you choke back to chop, so to chop you need to run some paracord through the lanyard hole for a pinky lanyard.

The sheath is made out of molded plastic, it has great retention and the belt clip stays on your belt, it might be nice if it rode a little lower (it is hard to get out), but if it rode lower the bottom of the sheath might get in the way.

This knife has ESEE's no questions asked, unconditional, lifetime warranty, if you can break it they will fix it. Also you don't have to be the first owner, they will guarantee the knife no matter how many times it has been sold or traded.

Here are some specs, overall length:11 3/4" blade length:6 1/2" cutting edge:5 3/4" thickness:3/16" weight(knife only):12 oz. The ESEE 6 is a great go to knife weather you are camping, backpacking, hunting or bushcrafting.
